Natural disaster: At least 56 storm deaths in Iran

In Iran, the number of deaths after the severe storms has risen to at least 56 within 48 hours. This was announced by a spokesman for the Red Crescent on Saturday. Dozens are still missing in the capital, Tehran, and four other provinces, the spokesman said, according to the Entechab news portal. The police blocked several country roads because the storms also led to landslides in some provinces. Since storms are also expected across the country on Saturday, the local authorities fear more deaths.

There have been severe weather warnings in many parts of the country since Thursday. In addition to rescue workers from the Red Crescent, volunteers also helped with the rescue operations because of the severe flooding. Hundreds of families have been made homeless in the past 48 hours. The government under President Ebrahim Raisi promised financial aid to those affected.
