Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 18-year-old points pistol at police officers

Greifswald (dpa / mv) - An 18-year-old in Greifswald (Vorpommern-Greifswald district) aimed a stun gun at two police officers and threatened and insulted them. Witnesses reportedly alerted the police on Friday evening because the young man is said to have shot the pistol on a sports field.

When two officers arrived, a 45-year-old police officer and a 33-year-old policewoman, the 18-year-old pointed the gun at them. The police officer then grabbed his service gun, pointed it at the suspect and asked him to drop his gun. When the young man failed to comply, the police officer fired a warning shot into the air. The 18-year-old then threw his pistol at the officers, but missed them.

Finally, the two police forces managed to overpower the suspect and take him into custody. He suffered a laceration in his head, which was treated in a clinic. The police officer suffered a minor hand injury in the incident. The police officer was unharmed.

The murder weapon, for which the 18-year-old did not have a permit, was secured. Criminal proceedings were instituted against him for threats, resistance against law enforcement officials, attempted dangerous bodily harm and violation of the Weapons Act.
