North Rhine-Westphalia: Accident driver serves up a creative excuse to the police

Jüchen (dpa / lnw) - A 19-year-old gave the police a pretty creative excuse after a traffic accident. The man left the road in Jüchen near Mönchengladbach on Friday and damaged three cars, a trailer and several street bollards. When the police arrived at the scene of the accident, however, the young man told the officers a completely different story: the car had been stolen from his mother and he just happened to be passing by the spot where the thieves used it to cause the accident. What was stupid for him, however, was that witnesses had observed him getting out of the driver's door after the accident.

"The young man's excuses could have been due to the lack of a driver's license, but perhaps also to the fact that a rapid test showed a positive result for cocaine use," said the police. Officers also found a bag of drugs. The 19-year-old is now being further investigated.
