North Rhine-Westphalia: ADAC expects full autobahns on December 22nd and 23rd

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The ADAC expects full motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia on December 22nd and 23rd. An ADAC traffic expert explained that there are probably a particularly large number of people on the road, especially in the afternoon. In view of the traffic jam figures in recent years, however, one should not expect traffic chaos before the upcoming public holidays.

The greatest congestion potential is on the A1 (Cologne, Dortmund and Münster), the A2 (Dortmund and Bielefeld), the A3 (Cologne and Frankfurt), the A40 (Duisburg and Dortmund) and the A43 (Wuppertal and Recklinghausen) as well as on the Cologne ring road (motorways A1, A3 and A4).

The ADAC recommended the morning of December 24th for the journey. Anyone who decides to do this will "reach their destination much faster and more relaxed than on Friday," it said. In the afternoon of Boxing Day it could get crowded again on the motorways. Compared to the days before Christmas, however, a lower volume of traffic is to be expected. After Christmas, the ADAC expects only a few traffic jams on the motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia until December 31st.
