North Rhine-Westphalia: ADAC still considers fuel prices in NRW to be too high

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The ADAC criticized prices at gas stations in North Rhine-Westphalia that were too high just a week after the introduction of the fuel tax reduction. "Our sample in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Essen over the Pentecost weekend shows that fuel prices are still at a level that is far too high," said a spokesman for ADAC North Rhine on Monday.

"Only individual gas stations in Essen and Cologne offered Super E10 for a short time for 1.859 euros, in Düsseldorf the E10 price practically never fell below 1.909 euros at the weekend," said the ADAC on Monday afternoon. At times, the price for the E10 was over two euros in all three cities. According to the ADAC, the diesel also registered prices well above two euros. The association intends to publish a detailed nationwide evaluation of fuel prices this Tuesday.

"Apparently, the Pentecost wave of travel was unfortunately used again to keep prices at a high level at the expense of consumers," said the spokesman. Since June 1, there has been tax relief on fuel in Germany, which amounts to 35.2 cents per liter for petrol and 16.7 cents for diesel. The prices at the pumps should therefore be significantly lower simply because of the tax cut. If the relief were fully passed on to consumers, the E10 would have to cost 1.80 euros per liter and diesel 1.87 euros per liter, said the ADAC spokesman. "Not even the tank discount is passed on in full - and has been for days."
