Goch (dpa / lnw) - According to preliminary information, the major fire in Goch (Kleve district) caused damage of around 1.5 million euros. This was announced by the fire department on Saturday. The fire broke out on Friday afternoon in a hall of a wholesaler of flower and garden products. After almost 19 hours, the mission was over. Up to 200 firefighters were on site.
The two injured firefighters, aged 36 and 46, are still hospitalized, it said. They had burned their faces and hands and were taken to special clinics by rescue helicopter. According to the fire brigade, the 36-year-old suffered minor injuries – the fire brigade had no reliable knowledge of the state of health of his comrade.
The fire brigade also recommended on Saturday not to take any water from the Niers, not to bathe in it and not to let animals drink from it. It cannot be ruled out that extinguishing water got into the sewage system and thus into the river. A railway line of the RE 10 and the federal highway 67 were released again. The cause of the fire is still unclear, the police took up the investigation and confiscated the scene of the fire.
