North Rhine-Westphalia: Arranged preventive detention for serial rapists

Bonn (dpa / lnw) - After the repeated rape of a student in Bonn, the district court there ordered preventive detention for the previously convicted rapist. In addition, the 36-year-old from Morsbach (Oberberg district) was sentenced to ten years in prison for the rape.

The man is a dangerous hangman. The risk of recurrence is high, it said in the verdict on Monday. On the evening of March 14, 2022, the man drove to Bonn and rang the bell at a shared apartment in the old town at around 11 p.m.

The 25-year-old student, who thought her roommate had forgotten her key, opened the door. At the apartment door, the man immediately covered her mouth and pushed her into the apartment. He stated that he was from the secret police and that colleagues of his were looking for terrorists in the house.

Then he locked himself with the young woman in her shared room, tied her up, gagged her and raped her three times in the hours that followed. The student had to be treated in a psychiatric ward for two months because of the serious psychological consequences. She never returned to the crime apartment. The accused had remained silent during the trial, he had no recollection of what happened, he said to his defense attorney. In the last word he had apologized to the victim if he actually "should have done something like that".

According to the verdict, the accused has already committed three serious crimes against women. The Bonn Regional Court had already sentenced the accused to nine years and ten months in prison in 2013 for raping and depriving a student of her liberty, also in a shared flat in Bonn.

In 2009, he forced the then 21-year-old to have sex with a knife. Included in this judgment was an old sentence from 2011: the district court of Dessau had sentenced the accused to seven and a half years in prison for aggravated robbery and extortion. At the time, the victim was the wife of the restaurant owner for whom he had worked as a cook. So far, it has not been possible to deport the rejected asylum seeker because of his unclear origin.
