North Rhine-Westphalia: charges after a life-threatening attack on 26-year-olds

Bocholt (dpa / lnw) - Around four months after a violent attack on a 26-year-old man in Bocholt, the Münster public prosecutor's office brought charges against four suspects. The four suspects are two 18-year-old men, a 19-year-old and a 24-year-old suspect. According to a statement on Wednesday, they are accused of joint attempted murder, dangerous bodily harm and aggravated robbery with attempted death. A 17-year-old was also believed to be involved. The case against him was handed over to the public prosecutor's office in Duisburg.

According to the investigation, an acquaintance is said to have asked the 24-year-old to intimidate the later victim because she no longer wanted any contact with the 26-year-old. The woman then pretended to meet and the man was ambushed. What the woman, according to the indictment, probably did not know: her acquaintance made an appointment with the other accused to rob and kill the victim on the occasion.

According to prosecutors, the men insulted the 26-year-old and attacked him in a dead-end street in mid-October. They hit him in the head with the handle of a shovel, a beer bottle and a heavy rock. According to the statement, they kicked the victim when he was already on the ground. This resulted in life-threatening injuries. The men fled, assuming the man was dead. In the hospital he had to be put into an artificial coma. He was only released about two weeks later.

During the attack, 50 euros and a car key were stolen from the victim. Three of the four suspects are in custody. The 24-year-old commented on the allegations and named those involved in the crime and their actions. He himself was not involved in the physical attack. He was released from custody subject to conditions. The other men have not yet commented. The investigation into the 20-year-old woman has not yet been completed.

The district court of Münster must now decide whether to admit the indictment.
