North Rhine-Westphalia: Cyber alarm for the Greens in the state parliament

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After a suspected cyber attack in the Düsseldorf state parliament, the central and contact point for cybercrime (ZAC) of the Cologne public prosecutor's office took over the investigation. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the German Press Agency. The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported. According to dpa information, a Green MP's computer was handed over to the police for further investigation.

According to reports, at the end of September the state parliament first identified a "critical connection attempt" to an IP address that was on a warning list from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). However, the protective device ("firewall") of the state parliament ultimately prevented this. When the incident was investigated, another case surfaced a few days later - leading to the Green MP's computer. It is still unclear whether the first attack was aimed at the same computer.

According to dpa information, the state parliament has therefore expanded the logging of Internet traffic. All necessary data sets should be handed over to the investigators if necessary with the consent of the parliamentary groups.
