North Rhine-Westphalia: Deadly family revenge: 31-year-old accused of murder

Because the victim's brother is said to have insulted the accused's family, the 31-year-old and his relatives are said to have taken bloody revenge with a hammer and knife. Now he's on trial for murder.

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The Cologne district court is hearing today (9.15 a.m.) for joint murder against a 31-year-old man. In March 2022, the accused and other family members are said to have surrounded the later victim in his car on a street in Cologne and hit the vehicle. The attacked person was able to free himself from the vehicle, but was then hit by the attackers with a hammer, among other things, according to a spokeswoman for the regional court. In addition, the accused and his accomplices are said to have stabbed their victim with a knife. Despite an intensive medical intervention, the man died of his severe injuries.

The background to the crime is said to have been a dispute between the accused's family and the victim's family. Accordingly, the victim's brother is said to have insulted the accused's family in a video on social media shortly before the crime. The head of the accused's family then demanded a reaction, the spokeswoman said.

The process is scheduled to last nine days until December 22, 2022.
