The inauguration of the Beethoven monument in Bonn in 1845 is commemorated with a historical staging. The project was actually planned two years ago, but Corona got in the way. The memorial has now been renovated - a welcome occasion for the celebration.

Bonn (dpa / lnw) - For a historical spectacle for the inauguration of the restored Beethoven monument, Bonn's Mayor Katja Dörner becomes an actress. The Greens politician will take on the role of Britain's Queen Victoria at the August festival, the organizers said. Among the many actors is the cabaret artist Rainer Pause, who plays the natural scientist Alexander von Humboldt. After an absence of six months, the renovated Beethoven monument has been back on Münsterplatz in the center of Bonn since Tuesday.

On August 14, the spectacle with historical costumes is to take place here. It is intended to commemorate the inauguration in 1845, when the monument to the Bonn-born composer Ludwig van Beethoven was erected. At that time, many celebrities traveled from all over Europe, including Queen Victoria and her husband Albert, as well as the composer Franz Liszt, who made the monument possible in the first place with a large donation. At that time they watched the ceremony from a balcony - and that's how it should be with the spectacle again.

Co-organizer Jürgen Nimptsch has a leading role in the event on August 14th. The former Mayor of Bonn takes over the moderation. The restorer of the monument should also have a say. Because of the corona pandemic, the project had to be postponed twice; it was originally planned for 2020.
