North Rhine-Westphalia: Hot, colorful and loud: "Holi Festival" attracts thousands

Neuss (dpa / lnw) - Hot, loud and colorful: Thousands of visitors celebrated what the organizers said was "probably the most colorful festival of the year" in Neuss on Saturday. National and international DJs heated up the crowd with electro, minimal and house music on a large stage. The spectacle is called the "Holi Festival of Colours".

At the event, jockeys did not race their horses across the racecourse as usual, but disc jockeys counted down every hour (1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) so that all participants threw colored powder into the air at the same time. This created a huge cloud of color that colors everything. In order for the color to come into its own, the participants were asked beforehand to "preferably wear something white".

Those who are not at least 16 years old - which was checked at the entrance - were not allowed to participate. In order not to harm the environment and health, the "tested and tested special powder" could only be purchased on the festival grounds.

If you couldn't be there in Neuss at the start of the 2022 tour - no problem: This summer the Holi Festival will be making stops in Mannheim, Hamburg, Berlin, Karlsruhe, Saarbrücken and Würzburg until September 10th. The colorful music party has been around in Germany since 2012.
