"The fears in the families are growing, the problems are there," reported the chairwoman of the State Parents' Conference (LEK), Anke Staar, shortly before school started in North Rhine-Westphalia after the autumn holidays this Monday. Some could no longer afford school trips or larger excursions. "It's now also hitting classes that previously didn't need any financial support. Many families are now reaching their financial limits for the first time."
The Education and Training Association (VBE) emphasized: "Unfortunately, things cannot go on as before." NRW state chairman Stefan Behlau told the German Press Agency: "Some school canteens have also adjusted to rising prices. Schools have to reschedule. This also applies to class trips."
