Herne (dpa / lnw) - Police officers were attacked and insulted during an operation on a sports field in Herne due to a disturbance of the peace. As the police also announced on Sunday, the emergency services were called to the sports facility on Saturday evening just before midnight. They were then attacked from a crowd of around 100 people. They were showered with beer, spat on and insulted.

An attacker went straight for the police. He was arrested. Although he suffered minor injuries, the man reportedly refused medical treatment. According to the police, a total of five people were temporarily arrested and preliminary investigations were initiated. The identities of at least six perpetrators between the ages of 21 and 47 have been identified. Police officers were not injured.
