North Rhine-Westphalia: Laumann: No evidence of a "general drug shortage"

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - NRW Minister of Health Karl-Josef Laumann says there are no indications of a "general shortage of medicines" in autumn and winter. Laumann is also relaxed when it comes to fever juice for children: There is a much higher demand this year - but no shortage of supplies, according to Laumann in a paper for the state parliament.

Among other things, the SPD faction had asked the state government about the fever juices, which were recently sold out in many pharmacies. In the answer, Laumann's ministry refers to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM): This found out that there was no shortage of the product - but rather a distribution problem due to the high demand. Means: The problem is more likely to be hamster purchases.

If someone really needs fever juice acutely, it can also be produced in the local pharmacy, says Laumann. The North Rhine-Westphalia Association of Pharmacists had previously drawn attention to this.

SPD parliamentary group leader Lisa-Kristin Kapteinat said Laumann's message was "good news". Nevertheless, "the responsible authorities should now do everything possible to keep an eye on the supply situation and - if necessary - to intervene," says Kapteinat.
