North Rhine-Westphalia: People are afraid of internet fraud and burglaries

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - When it comes to crime, people in North Rhine-Westphalia are most afraid of becoming victims of burglaries and internet fraud. This is the result of the largest German study to date on crime and people's sense of security. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, 37,000 people were questioned. NRW results were published by the State Criminal Police Office on Wednesday.

Worrying about being cheated on the internet (42.2 percent) was even more important than worrying about a burglary (31.9 percent). When asked about real experiences with crime, criminal offenses on the Internet (13.9 percent) were ahead of fraud (12.4), property damage (11.7) and bicycle theft (7.0). Experiences with attempted and completed burglaries gave 5.2 percent.
