North Rhine-Westphalia: Police Cologne stops two speeders: patrol car towed

Cologne / Bergisch Gladbach (dpa / lnw) - Two chases kept the Cologne police in suspense over the weekend. According to a report on Saturday night, in the Dellbrück district on the right bank of the Rhine, witnesses drew the police's attention to the fact that a suspected drunk got into his car and drove off. When the 25-year-old noticed the police, he drove away at high speed and only stopped several kilometers further in Bergisch Gladbach. He fled on foot, fell and was slightly injured.

The driver's license was taken from the man known to the police, and several criminal charges are now awaiting him. At the end of the rapid escape, a patrol car collided with the stone wall of a property and had to be towed away, according to the announcement.

A few hours earlier, late on Friday evening, a patrol in downtown Cologne had noticed a young man driving his vehicle at excessive speed. When the officials targeted him, the 20-year-old tried to escape with risky driving maneuvers and up to 100 kilometers per hour. The fugitive did not respond to stop signals and, according to the police, crossed the Rhine via the Severins Bridge.

The 20-year-old and his two companions (19 and 20 years old) ended up in the Poll district on the right bank of the Rhine. The police secured the tuned vehicle. The 20-year-old driver reportedly does not have a driver's license and is now facing several criminal proceedings. A 19-year-old who rented the vehicle and allowed the 20-year-old to drive also received a criminal complaint.
