There are 51 world heritage sites in Germany. On the UNESCO World Heritage Day on Sunday, many of them invite you to take a look behind the scenes. Some are also taking part in NRW.

Bonn (dpa/lnw) - With around 250 guided tours, exhibitions, concerts, digital offers and hands-on activities, the German world heritage sites are celebrating Unesco World Heritage Day on Pentecost Sunday. According to the German Unesco Commission in Bonn, there are also some offers in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Visitors can take part in guided tours of the Zeche Zollverein in Essen. The castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust in Brühl invite you to a colorful program with information stands, games and guided tours. In Cologne, those interested can discover the Lower Germanic Limes on foot or by bicycle under the motto "Rome on the Rhine".

The central event takes place in Wismar. There are a total of 51 World Heritage Sites in Germany, including Aachen and Cologne Cathedral.
