Rügen: Woman saves young people from the Baltic Sea - and dies in the clinic

After rescuing two young people from the water together with a helper, a woman on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen got into trouble herself and later died in the hospital. According to the police, the 57-year-old went into the water on Friday evening in the Baltic Sea resort of Thiessow in Mönchgut to help two 16-year-olds who were in mortal danger due to strong waves. Together with the other 49-year-old helper, she managed to save the two.

The 57-year-old then got into trouble herself and was no longer able to reach the shore on her own. Two beach visitors rushed to her aid and rescued the now lifeless woman from the water. They immediately began resuscitation, which the rescue workers who arrived successfully continued. They took the woman to a hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.

According to the police, the rescued 16-year-olds were unharmed, they were only briefly cared for on site by rescue service employees.
