Dresden (dpa/sn) - After the Corona low in traffic accidents, the numbers in Saxony increased again last year. The total number rose by 2.7 percent compared to the previous year to 97,061, as the police inspector Petric Kleine announced on Monday in Dresden. In the previous year the number was 94,717. According to traffic accident statistics, the number of casualties - i.e. people who were injured or killed in road traffic accidents - rose from 14,146 in the previous year to 16,386 in 2022. This is an increase of 16.1 percent.

According to the statistics, the number of people killed on the road fell from 129 people in the previous year to 118 - the lowest value in the last ten years. There has been a worrying increase in the number of crashed cyclists and users of small electric vehicles such as e-scooters. The number of cyclists involved in accidents rose by 23.3 percent to 4,781. 120 people were involved in accidents while using small electric vehicles - an increase of 53.8 percent compared to the previous year.

In addition, the number of traffic accidents involving personal injury under the influence of alcohol increased by 23 percent and thus reached the pre-pandemic levels again. Traffic accidents under the influence of intoxicants - so-called drug accidents - also increased and reached a new high of 322 accidents.
