Saxony: 800 to 1000 kilograms of wild garlic unearthed in Leipzig

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - Large amounts of wild garlic have been dug up again in Leipzig. In the alluvial forest, the city planning service secured sacks with a total of 800 to 1000 kilograms of plants. The city announced on Tuesday that there was no trace of the perpetrators. Citizens pointed out the location on Monday afternoon.

According to the city, a total of 40 bags, each weighing 20 to 25 kilograms, were discovered. "The wild garlic plants themselves can no longer be saved and must therefore be disposed of," it said.

In Leipzig, just last week, several people were caught digging up buckets of wild garlic. In view of the new case, the city once again pointed out the rules for wild garlic collectors. Accordingly, the plants may only be taken from the forest in the size of a hand bouquet. If you want to pick more, you need permission from the forest owner and the nature conservation authority. Violations of these rules are considered administrative offenses and can be punished with a fine of up to 2,500 euros, in serious cases up to 10,000 euros.
