Saxony: acquittals after deadly pool party: appealed

Grimma (dpa / sn) - The death of two men at a pool party in the district of Leipzig is not yet legally complete. The public prosecutor's office has appealed against the acquittals for the two accused, said a spokesman for the authority on Tuesday in Leipzig on request. The Grimma district court had acquitted the 44 and 49-year-old men last week of charges of negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm.

The accused are said to have dumped a block of dry ice into a pool at the private Christmas party in Gerichshain on December 22, 2019. Carbon dioxide was released and had collected above the water surface. Three men in the pool passed out and went under. A 20-year-old and a 39-year-old drowned. The third victim, a 47-year-old man at the time, was revived.

The judges at the Grimma district court were convinced that the defendants should not have informed themselves about the dangers of dry ice. In addition, the seller of the dry ice did not inform the two men about the dangers.
