Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Magdeburg, criminals posed as police officers looking for counterfeit money and cheated an elderly woman out of several thousand euros. They called the 79-year-old pensioner and said they wanted to check their cash for counterfeit money, the police in Magdeburg said on Sunday. On Saturday, the woman handed the two men a mid-four-digit amount. The perpetrators took the money and left the apartment. The police are now investigating fraud.
Officials pointed out that the police never telephoned to inquire about cash or valuables to collect for inspection.
