Halle (dpa/sa) - On Christmas Eve last year, 29 children were born in Saxony-Anhalt. That was significantly fewer children than were born every day on average, as the State Statistical Office in Halle announced on Friday. Calculated over the year, around 44 children saw the light of day every day. According to the statistics authority, 24 births were counted on New Year's Eve 2021.
A total of around 16,000 children were born alive in Saxony-Anhalt last year. That was around 90 babies fewer than in 2020. The highest number of births was registered on August 24 with 72 newborns, and the lowest on October 23 with 22 children.
