Saxony-Anhalt: Corona incidence in Saxony-Anhalt has increased significantly

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The number of registered new corona infections in Saxony-Anhalt has increased significantly compared to the previous week. According to the overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday, 365.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were registered within seven days. A week earlier, the value was 253.2. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence reached 409.9 on Thursday (previous week: 281.4).

However, the information does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

The registered incidence of infection differs significantly in the districts in Saxony-Anhalt. The RKI gave the highest incidences nationwide for Jerichower Land with 570.0 and the Mansfeld-Südharz district with 569.8. The lowest values were reported for the rural districts of Börde (264.0) and Wittenberg (281.3).

According to the RKI, 844,478 infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic. The statistics show a total of 5715 deaths in connection with a corona infection in the country. Saxony-Anhalt has around 2.17 million inhabitants.

From October 1st, a new Corona Containment Ordinance will apply in Saxony-Anhalt - but hardly anything will change for the people. Medical mouth and nose protection must continue to be worn in local public transport, as the State Chancellery announced. The carriers would have to randomly check compliance with the rule. Anyone who violates the mask requirement can be excluded from further transport.

The 18th Corona Containment Ordinance also stipulates that visitors to homeless and refugee accommodation and publicly accessible prison interiors must wear medical mouth and nose protection. The regulation is valid until October 29th.
