Halle (dpa/sa) - Painting, graphics, screen printing, plastic, installation: the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is dedicating a two-and-a-half-week exhibition to the various artistic positions of graduates of the art department. After the opening of "Beyond that. Diploma of Art" on Wednesday in the Volkspark Halle, the works of the 13 participants can be seen until February 19th. According to the university, the focus of the presentation is the connection of individual artistic positions to form a total work of art. The show should also emphasize "the variety of aesthetic attitudes" of the castle, it said.

On the occasion of the vernissage, the art prize of the Saalesparkasse Foundation is to be awarded. The award, which is endowed with 2500 euros, will be presented for the 17th time by a six-person jury chaired by Tilo Baumgärtel, Prorector of the Burg and professor of painting, for a "final work of outstanding artistic quality". In addition, up to two applicants could be rewarded with recognition and prize money of 500 euros each.

The castle, as the university is called, was founded in 1915. With more than 1000 students, it is one of the largest art academies in Germany. A good 50 professors and 60 academic employees look after the students from all over the world. More than 20 courses are offered in the art and design departments.
