Saxony-Anhalt: Magdeburg: 9-euro ticket for schoolchildren

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Pupils in Magdeburg should be able to travel by bus and train for nine euros a month from August 2023. The city council made the decision on Thursday. The city announced on Thursday that the 9-euro ticket is also valid in the city outside of school hours, i.e. on weekends and during the holidays. "With today's city council decision, thousands of families in Magdeburg will be financially relieved," said Mayor Simone Borris (independent). Almost 17,000 schoolchildren could therefore use the new ticket.

According to the information, all students from the 1st to the 13th grade as well as vocational school students without training allowance with residence and school in Magdeburg are entitled to the ticket. According to the announcement, children who come to school with special transport because of a disability are also entitled to the discounted ticket.

One-time costs of 210,000 euros are planned to create the technical prerequisites. For the coming year, 162,000 euros are planned in the budget. From 2024, according to the city, the additional costs will be 390,000 euros. The Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe (MVB) are currently preparing all the necessary steps. The new ticket can then probably be ordered from May 2023.
