Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The prices for satchels and writing instruments for the new school year, which begins on Thursday in Saxony-Anhalt, have risen only slightly, unlike many other products. As the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday, the prices for satchels and school backpacks in July 2022 were 1.1 percent higher than in the same month last year. According to the information, school and learning books cost 1.6 percent more.
The prices for writing implements such as pencils and colored pencils as well as fountain pens and ballpoint pens have increased significantly this year. According to the state office, these rose by 3.7 and 5.1 percent respectively. Consumers also had to pay more for paint boxes (plus 9.4 percent) or fountain pen cartridges (plus twelve percent) than in the previous year. The price increases for paper products are particularly serious. For example, customers would have had to pay 25.6 percent more for printer paper than at the same time last year, it said.
