Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The painter Anja Nürnberg, who was born in Magdeburg, received the prize of the Saxony-Anhalt Art Foundation at the Central German fair for contemporary art "KUNST/MITTE". "Nuremberg's pictures are a discovery in landscape painting," said the art foundation on Saturday. "The captured scenes are not sharply sketched, but are hinted at and abstracted. In her pictures, the landscape lines blur with urban scenes."

Anja Nürnberg, born in 1982, was honored by Minister of Culture Rainer Robra (CDU). The prize is endowed with 1000 euros. Nuremberg has lived and worked since her studies at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle. With the award, the art foundation wants to draw attention to contemporary artistic positions and at the same time make the diverse and innovative art scene better known beyond national borders.

At the "KUNST/MITTE" fair, national and international artists, galleries and exhibition halls will be presenting paintings, sculptures, photographs and graphics until Sunday. According to the organizers, more than 160 participants will show their art in the exhibition hall.
