Saxony-Anhalt: The police have been looking for a man again since the morning hours

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The police in Magdeburg have been looking for a fugitive again since Tuesday morning. This was announced by a spokesman for the police. Already on Monday evening, the man had arranged for a large search operation with sniffer dogs and a helicopter in the Fermersleben district. So far this has not been successful.

An emergency call about the man was received on Monday evening, the spokesman reported. According to witness statements, the man behaved in a conspicuous manner behind the window of a residential building and was apparently under the influence of drugs. An emergency service called tried to communicate with the man through the open window, but he rejected the paramedics. He then verbally threatened a police officer.

Shortly thereafter, witnesses reported to the police that the man was said to have handled an object similar to a firearm at the window beforehand. The police then surrounded the building and ordered a helicopter. A special task force forcibly opened the door of the apartment after a search warrant.

But the man could not be found, but a toy gun was, said the spokesman. A subsequent search with the helicopter and sniffer dogs was therefore unsuccessful. The police do not assume any threat.
