Saxony-Anhalt: Warm October - new temperature record in Saxony-Anhalt

Magdeburg/Offenbach (dpa/sa) - According to meteorologists, the end of October was very warm and, as the saying goes, golden. In Saxony-Anhalt, the previous top spot with an average temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius from 2001 was exceeded by 0.2 degrees, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Monday after initial evaluations of its measuring stations. In total, it rained about 30 liters per square meter. The sun shone for 155 hours, which puts Saxony-Anhalt among the sunnier areas in Germany, according to the DWD. The October target of the international reference period from 1961 to 1990 is 109 hours of sunshine, it said.

"We experienced an October whose temperatures are more like May, which is typical in this country," said DWD spokesman Uwe Kirsche. "Another look into our climate future."
