Dresden (dpa/sn) - Since 2015, almost 900 firefighters and other rescue workers have been attacked in Saxony. By the end of 2021, 82 members of the fire brigade and 784 other helpers were registered in emergency situations, according to the Interior Ministry's response to a request from the AfD in the state parliament.

For the first half of 2022, the statistics show 32 criminal offenses - from insult, coercion and threats to physical assault and dangerous bodily harm. 38 members of the fire brigade or rescue services were affected, 34 of them were slightly injured, five of them were bitten and spat on. According to the ministry, suspects were identified in 30 cases, a total of 29, some of whom were active several times. The clearance rate is 93.8 percent.

In connection with such attacks, between 2015 and 2021 there was damage to vehicles and material in the city of Leipzig of more than 5,200 euros, in the district of Central Saxony of around 80,000 euros and the rescue association of Southwest Saxony of around 60,000 euros. Against this background, the AfD parliamentary group called for better protection for the rescue workers.
