Saxony: Association: care facilities under pressure due to cost increases

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Due to the sharp rise in energy and food prices, the Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services (bpa) has demanded rapid reimbursement of costs for care facilities. "If they don't receive refinancing, it will threaten their existence in the long term," warned the bpa state chairman in Saxony, Igor Ratzenberger, on Monday in Leipzig. The cost bearers in Saxony are currently refusing to refinance the additional costs.

Therefore, many institutions are under considerable pressure, said Ratzenberger. Gas prices in particular drove up costs. After the price of gas had tripled, bills had increased tenfold in some cases. For the coming weeks, gas suppliers have announced that they will also increase the prices agreed in long-term contracts.

Therefore, the bpa demanded a direct reimbursement of costs. Similar to the billing procedure in the care industry during the corona pandemic, care and integration assistance facilities should be able to claim higher deductions from energy suppliers directly from the cost bearers.

The bpa represents the interests of more than 13,000 social institutions in Germany, including child and youth welfare as well as outpatient and inpatient care facilities.
