Saxony: Corona incidence in Saxony increased to 419.2

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The upward trend in the weekly corona incidence in Saxony continues. The reading was 419.2 on Thursday, up again from the previous week (391.9). In a nationwide comparison, according to the current overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the Free State still has the second lowest value after Thuringia (298.9). The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for Germany was 690.6.

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI, mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done - only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

Of the 13 regions, the city of Leipzig still has the highest incidence with 697.7, ahead of the state capital Dresden with 477. According to the RKI, the value is currently lowest in the Erzgebirge district with 264.2. According to the RKI, almost 1.58 million infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, with around four million inhabitants. The statistics show more than 15,600 corona deaths.
