An average of 29.27 euros was incurred per hour in 2020, as the state’s statistical office announced on Thursday. That is 7.90 euros less than the national average, which was 37.17 euros.

Statisticians examine labor costs every four years. Compared to 2016, they increased by 16.3 percent in MV and thus more than the national average of 12.3 percent, it said. Nevertheless, according to the office, they remained the lowest in a country comparison.

Within the MV economy, the lowest costs per hour of work were in the hospitality industry at 18.16 euros, the highest in finance and insurance at 44.04 euros. Labor costs are made up of gross earnings and non-wage labor costs. This also includes special payments and benefits in kind. Average wages are particularly low in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
