Leipzig (dpa/sn) - With non-European productions, the Leipzig dance and theater festival euro-scene wants to take a new look at the European continent this year. "The artists deal with current social issues and show how they can be viewed and evaluated differently," said festival director Christian Watty at the presentation of the program on Thursday in Leipzig. Among other things, the topic of colonialism in Europe is critically examined.
The festival is taking place for the 32nd time this year. From November 8th to 13th, 32 events are planned at different locations in Leipzig. Topics such as the longing for more respect, diversity and gender equality as well as the desire for an end to exclusion, discrimination, exploitation and racism are at the top of the social agenda, said Watty. "We in Europe in particular are called upon to deal with our colonial past and neo-colonial present."
In addition to a wide variety of productions, including those by the Chilean-Spanish director duo AzkonaToloza and the choreographer Panaibra Gabriel Canda from Mozambique, the program also includes contributions by experts and short films. In addition, 16 artists will perform for and together during the festival days in a new format called Ubuntu Connection accompanied by a live band, said Watty.
