Saxony: Four suspects arrested for attacking police officers

Annaberg-Buchholz (dpa/sn) - Nine months after an attack on police officers in Annaberg-Buchholz, investigators caught four main suspects. The police said on Tuesday that they were young men aged 21, 22, 23 and 24. They were caught on Sunday morning in their apartments in Zwönitz, Lößnitz, Crottendorf and Johanngeorgenstadt. Arrest warrants were issued for all four. They are accused of serious breach of the peace, assault on law enforcement officers and dangerous bodily harm.

In December 2021, the suspects are said to have "ambushed" five police officers from a larger group. A 60-year-old officer suffered serious injuries. The police officers were on duty because of an unauthorized birthday party in a discotheque, which violated the Corona rules at the time. During the check, the officials were "massively" attacked and pelted with bottles and lumps of ice. At the time, the police classified those involved as corona deniers.
