Saxony: Fraudsters shock woman and steal 54,000 euros

Mittelherwigsdorf (dpa/sn) - With a shock phone call, scammers stole 54,000 euros from an elderly woman in Mittelherwigsdorf (Görlitz district). The scammers called the woman on Tuesday afternoon, police said Wednesday, claiming her son had caused an accident and was only getting out of jail by posting bail. Shortly thereafter, the woman handed the money to the perpetrators in person. It was only when she was later on the phone to her son that the fraud was reportedly discovered and the police were alerted. The investigations are ongoing.
