The motto of the first event is "listening to one another", the opening speech will be given by Leipzig's Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD).

Gewandhaus Director Andreas Schulz emphasized that the musically inspired examination of basic values, understanding of democracy and social coexistence should not focus on polarizing party-political positions. On the following day (September 17) there will be a "Democracy Day" in cooperation with the Saxon State Center for Civic Education. This begins with the traditional Gewandhaus Day in the city center, where ensembles of the orchestra play music at various locations in Leipzig city center with free admission.
