Saxony: Greens: Saxony as a film location must be strengthened

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The Greens in the Saxon state parliament want to focus more on Saxony as a film location. The film industry has great potential in the Free State, said Claudia Maicher on Monday in Dresden. "A basic prerequisite for a vital and efficient film industry is to attract well-trained specialists and keep them in Saxony. Better working conditions such as the compatibility of family and career also play a role." The government is called upon to search specifically for solutions on how to increase its support. "A good development of the Saxon film industry depends above all on enough production orders being awarded to regional production companies. I therefore appeal to the MDR to do even better justice to its regional responsibility," explained the politician. Building up a regionally anchored producer scene is also an opportunity to fulfill the regional program mandate. "MDR has already started to network more closely with producers. I expressly welcome that."

At the same time, Maicher spoke out in favor of financially supporting the smaller cinemas in rural areas and thus ensuring their preservation. "They are having difficulties with the decline in audience numbers caused by the pandemic. As a result, filmmakers are also missing out on returns from cinema revenues."
