Saxony: Handicraft businesses are pessimistic about the future

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The East Saxon trade looks with concern into the future. Compared to the previous year, the business climate index has fallen significantly, as the Dresden Chamber of Crafts announced on Wednesday. According to the autumn economic survey, the value is currently 85 points, a year ago it was 121 points and in spring 110 points. The reason is the exploding energy prices, the sharp rise in material and raw material prices, rising interest rates and interrupted supply chains as well as inflation.

"Companies have their backs to the wall. Some companies are plagued by existential fears," said Jörg Dittrich, President of the Dresden Chamber of Crafts. In order to alleviate the concerns of companies, politicians must become more active, such price developments endanger business models, jobs and companies.

Among other things, he called for a reduction in energy taxes to the European minimum in order to lower the cost burden for companies. In addition, the gas price cap should also be introduced for small and medium-sized companies as quickly as possible and aid programs to compensate for hardship for companies should be launched.
