Saxony: Historically valuable books restored

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - With the help of funding, the Chemnitz City Library has had other historically valuable books from the 16th and 17th centuries restored. Specifically, the city announced on Wednesday that it was five volumes of the Kempten edition of the works of Hans Sachs and the "Heydenweldt" published in 1554 about antiquity and its world of gods.

The library houses around 3,500 media published up to 1850, which are considered particularly valuable cultural assets. Many have suffered damage over the centuries through use, the effects of war, fire, water, relocation or unfavorable storage. The restorations are intended to help preserve them for posterity. These efforts are to be continued this year with seven so-called incunabula. These are typefaces from the early days of book printing.
