Baden-Württemberg: screw patriarch wants to have written 189,000 letters

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to his own statements, the entrepreneur Reinhold Würth (87) has already written 189,000 letters. He also gets emails and SMS and responds to them. "But the standard is the letter, that's a tradition for me. I'm now at number 189,000," revealed the patriarch of the Würth trading group, known for screws and dowels, to the business magazine Capital (issue 9/22, EVT August 18). He numbered the letters.

In addition to employees, the recipients were his daughter Bettina and his grandchildren, as the interview further shows. When asked if she was now also writing letters to her daughter and nephews – who all work in the family business – Bettina Würth said: "For God's sake, no. We've been traumatized enough with this writing of letters."

The letters to employees sometimes deal with strategic questions, but often also with banalities, said Reinhold Würth. In a Würth building, for example, it was bomb hot on the upper floors during one of his visits, and the soap dispensers also didn't work. "It's inappropriate for our company and then we send a letter," said the company's founder, who was also known as the "King of Screws".
