Saxony: Incidence of 179.1 at a similar level as a week ago

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The official corona incidence in Saxony is at a similar level as in the previous week. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 179.1 on Thursday. A week ago it was 175.8, two weeks ago it was 201.9. Nationwide, the current incidence was estimated at 239.6.

Experts have been assuming for some time that the value does not fully reflect the infection situation because not all infected people can be tested. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the statistics.

The highest value for the 13 Saxon regions was reported for the district of Leipzig with 239.3, the lowest with 114.8 for the district of Görlitz.

According to the RKI, a good 1.91 million infections have been registered nationwide since the pandemic began in March 2020. 16,461 people have died from or with a Sars-CoV-2 infection.
