Saxony: key witness: the protection of the constitution sought contacts in the left scene

Dresden (dpa / sn) - According to statements by the key witness in the Dresden trial against alleged left-wing extremists, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution has sought further contacts in the scene. The 30-year-old educator said on Friday at the hearing of the Dresden Higher Regional Court that he was asked who else could be contacted for cooperation with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. In addition, he was asked about the character of former comrades-in-arms, including those now accused in the proceedings.

The key witness is in a witness protection program and is accompanied in the process by several bodyguards. He was involved in at least one of the accused crimes and revealed himself to the authorities in spring 2022. At that time he was working in a day-care center in the Polish capital of Warsaw. According to his own statements, he was questioned there for the first time by employees of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the presence of Polish intelligence officers.

The defense tried again to shake the credibility of the key witness. While he previously stated that Polish officials were always present at the talks with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, he deviated from this statement on Friday. The defense also expressed suspicion of false testimony on another point.
