Saxony: Klitschko thanks the people of Leipzig with a letter

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Kiev's mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote to Leipzig's mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) and thanked him for the help of the people of Leipzig since the beginning of the Ukraine war. Strong partners are the key in any humanitarian emergency, according to the letter from the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv published by the city of Leipzig on Wednesday. "We really appreciate your help and are grateful for your big heart and solidarity."

Kyiv has been Leipzig's twin city since 1961. Since the start of the Russian war at the end of February, Jung had repeatedly expressed his solidarity with Ukraine, with the trade fair city supporting Kyiv with relief supplies, for example. In April, Klitschko joined a meeting of the Leipzig City Council via video to thank for the help. The current letter of thanks is dated July 25th.
