Saxony: More than a thousand demonstrate in Grimma against energy prices

Grimma (dpa/sn) - More than 1000 people demonstrated in Grimma against rising energy prices. At the protest on Tuesday evening under the motto "Energy instead of ideology", Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) spoke, among others. With applause, but also boos and whistles, he thanked them for their solidarity with the refugees from Ukraine and condemned the Russian war of aggression. Anyone who boos these statements is wrong, said Kretschmer.

A police spokeswoman spoke of a number of participants in the “low four-digit range”. As of now, no crimes have been committed.

According to media reports, the demonstration was called by a master roofer from Grimma, who had previously distanced himself from right-wing groups. According to a dpa photographer, supporters of the Free Saxony party, which is assigned to the right-wing extremist spectrum, could also be seen at the demonstration on the market square in the evening.
