Saxony: Saxon publishing prize goes to 20 publishers

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The Saxon publishing prize was awarded to 20 publishers for the first time this year. They can look forward to prize money of 10,000 euros each. Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) announced at the award ceremony on Monday that the state government was particularly concerned this year with sending out a strong signal for the industry and for Leipzig as a book fair location.

In previous years, only one publisher had received the award. This time the competition was opened and slipped under the umbrella of the "So geht sächsisch" marketing initiative. According to the State Chancellery, 84 of the 131 Saxon publishers applied for the prize. The award shows the diversity and quality of the Saxon publishing industry, explained Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU).
