Klingenberg (dpa/sn) - The grain fields have been harvested, on Wednesday (10 a.m.) Saxony's farmers take stock. It will also be about how the long drought has affected yields and qualities. It had been expected that the farmers would get less grain from their fields, on average, at 66.3 quintals per hectare than in the nationwide comparison. This means that the yields are also below the average of recent years, as determined by the State Statistical Office in a harvest forecast.
On the other hand, the barns for rapeseed, the most important oil crop in Saxony's fields, could be better stocked. With 35.3 quintals per hectare, an above-average yield was expected for this crop. The agricultural businesses in the Free State cultivate a little more than 700,000 hectares of arable land. The largest area is the cultivation of cereals, followed by rapeseed, which covered 104,900 hectares this year.
