Saxony: State Directorate with over 300,000 applications for compensation

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Since the beginning of the corona pandemic in March 2020, the Saxony State Directorate (LDS) has received almost 302,000 applications for compensation under the Infection Protection Act. About 207,000 of them were processed and 155 million euros were paid to the applicants - usually companies - the authority announced on Thursday in Dresden. "The other applications should also be processed as quickly as possible," explained LDS President Regina Kraushaar. In the high phases, well over 1,000 claims for compensation were received every day, while there are now significantly fewer, but still an average of 275.

According to the LDS, around 90 percent of all applications are for compensation due to corona-related quarantine and around ten percent are applications for loss of earnings in connection with people in need of care. The applications that are currently still open should be processed by the third quarter of 2023. If applicants get into economic difficulties because of outstanding compensation payments, there is the possibility of accelerated processing.

"Anyone who is subject to domestic quarantine due to the Infection Protection Act and suffers a loss of earnings generally receives compensation," says the LDS website. In the case of compensation payments for companies and the self-employed, the mandatory requirement applies that those affected must be subject to quarantine by a Saxon health authority. "The compensation is based on the loss of earnings. For the first six weeks, it is granted in the amount of the loss of earnings." From the beginning of the seventh week it is granted in the amount of the sickness benefit.
